The forecasters had been predicting afternoon and evening storms so it was pleasant surprise after church to see that the sky had cleared and the sun was out. The forecasters are predicting rain just about every day again this week. We haven't had a lot of "sit on the deck" days because of rain. It was such a beautiful evening that we decided to sit out on the deck and enjoy it. Wasn't long after we were out there that we saw turkey vultures circling. That in isn't so unusual here in Iowa but haven't seen them in our neighbor before. They decided to land on the tall ball lights over at the Cardinal Lofts. The Shelby Tennant school building was converted into 34 apartments called the Cardinal Lofts. The softball/baseball/football lights are still out back as a reminder of many games played there over the years. We counted 12 turkey vultures sitting on three of the lights.
I managed to get a couple of pictures before they starting moving from pole to pole. Before construction on the Cardinal Lofts, we had a family of crows living there. I loved waking up to the sound of the crows talking to each other. It always amazed me how one would caw and then a different one would answer. Turkey vultures don't sing on anything. They just grunt and hiss I am told. Which is probably a good thing because anything that looks as bad as a turkey vulture couldn't possibly have a pretty song.
You can read more about these ugly but necessary creatures here.

Have a good week. Take time if you can to enjoy God's creations.
