Turkey Vultures, OH MY

The forecasters had been predicting afternoon and evening storms so it was pleasant surprise after church to see that the sky had cleared and the sun was out. The forecasters are predicting rain just about every day again this week. We haven't had a lot of "sit on the deck" days because of rain. It was such a beautiful evening that we decided to  sit out on the deck and enjoy it. Wasn't long after we were out there that we saw turkey vultures circling. That in isn't so unusual here in Iowa but haven't seen them in our neighbor before. They decided to land on the tall ball lights over at the Cardinal Lofts. The Shelby Tennant school building was converted into 34 apartments called the Cardinal Lofts. The softball/baseball/football lights are still out back as a reminder of many games played there over the years. We counted 12 turkey vultures sitting on three of the lights.

I managed to get a couple of pictures before they starting moving from pole to pole. Before construction on the Cardinal Lofts, we had a family of crows living there. I loved waking up to the sound of the crows talking to each other. It always amazed me how one would caw and then a different one would answer. Turkey vultures don't sing on anything. They just grunt and hiss I am told. Which is probably a good thing because anything that looks as bad as a turkey vulture couldn't possibly have a pretty song.

You can read more about these ugly but necessary creatures here.

Have a good week. Take time if you can to enjoy God's creations.

Holy Moley Where have all the summers gone?????

Can’t believe it is June already. Where does the time go? We have been so busy that I have trouble knowing what day of the week it is. So glad the computer keeps me informed. Hubby always says he like winter because the pace is slower. I always tell him he is nuts. But we have been on the go so much this spring that I am beginning to think he is right. There was Easter and his hospital stay, followed by a 5 day trip visiting the girls and their families over the Mother‘s day weekend. We have had three graduation parties, a cousin’s 50th anniversary party and a 70th birthday party/family reunion this past weekend. What a fun time that was helping my sister-in-law (she lives in Las Vegas) celebrate a milestone birthday. She is a cancer survivor so that made it even more special. Plus I haven’t seen her kids since my brother died 8 years ago. It was a very fun weekend. All of our girls made it home for the party except one. Lots of visiting, laughter and good food made it a great day. Then to top it off, when we got home the family decided to do some chores for us. WOW. Did they ever!!!! Cleaned gutters, swept out the basement, trimmed three bushes, fixed the driveway and washed the 20 sunroom windows. The window washing took them 35 minutes, a job that takes hubby and me a whole morning to complete. They had the house and yard looking good for its anniversary. We moved into our house on June 1, 1965 50 years ago on June 1, 2015. It has been a great place to raise a wonderful, caring family. Love them all.
