40 Bags in 40 Days-YIKES Should've have given up chocolate!

I saw a post on FB suggesting 40 Bags for 40 Days. I had already decided it was time to do some much needed decluttering so I had a head start. I have donated/trashed 3 bags. I don’t think I will reach 40 bags as I am not really a saver but I figure if the weather warms up and I send hubby to the garage, he will easy be able to make up the difference.

Yesterday I tackled the coat closet in our computer room. Actually it had become more a catch all closet. You can stand up in it after you enter but it is under the stairway so the door is not as high as the inside. You have to duck when you back out.

Low entry

Clunked my head coming out a couple of times yesterday, to say the least. It also goes back as fall as the first couple of steps. Two rolls of shelves runs the length of the long wall.

Two shelves-storage clear under the steps

I don’t know when I have “ventured” that deep into it. It’s been a while.

That little closet had all of this stuffed in it.

Now you can even walk into it, if you duck. This is how it looks now.

Closet is now neat and tidy

It took me a couple of hours but the closet is cleaner than it has been in years. As you can see not much went back in. One bag to the trash and one bag to Good Will. And they are huge garbage bags. Only 35 more bags to go.

It might have been easier to give up chocolate.

Yummy, delicious way to cook leftover Salmon

Lent has started so fish or non-meat meals are in order on Fridays. Yesterday we had Salmon. The fillets were huge so there was leftovers. One of our favorite ways to east Salmon is in scrambled eggs so leftover Salmon is never a problem.

First I browned chopped onions and the Salmon in a little olive oil.

Then I added the eggs. And the tip going around on FB about adding a ¼ tsp of cornstarch to each egg before you beat them works. This does make for fluffy scrambled eggs. But the next time I will mix the cornstarch with a little of the milk before I add to the eggs. Took a bit of beating to get the lumps out.

And in a matter of minutes, dinner is served.

So the next time you have leftover Salmon or any other meat, try this it is easy, fast and delicious.

Have a great weekend,

"THUD" the Woes of Bird Watching.

Do you feed birds? We do. Hubby tops off the feeder just about every day. It is fun and relaxing to watch the birds at the feeder. That is till the squirrels show up. We have a dome feeder that you can adjust to keep the squirrels out. Well, if we lower it anymore the birds won’t be able to get in. But one (or more, they all look alike) shows up every noon, takes  a leap from the roof, right into the dome feeder.

And the flat feeder that the cardinals and finch like attracts the starlings.

They are the “hogs” of the bird world. Hubby gets totally too upset when they arrive. I have to remind him to calm down and just scare them off.

Starling
Another problem that arises when you feed birds is they sometimes fly into the windows when they come to the feeders. One way to prevent that is to put special window clings on your windows. They do work. The first ones I bought lasted a couple of years. I need to buy more but I don’t remember to do so till I hear that awful “thud” when one flies into the window, which happened just a little while ago. Time to head to Amazon and order some.

Have a fun and relaxing weekend with your loved ones.

Winter in Iowa-First real snowfall of the season.

We had our first real snowfall of this winter season overnight. Nine inches and counting. The wind has come up so I am sure it will be worse by evening. That is when the wind and snow is supposed to stop. Hope the weathermen are right. A friend came by and opened our main drive but the cars are still snowed in. We have a high school guy coming later today to snow blow us out. It is kind of pretty out but I suppose if I had to go out in it, I would feel different. Ribs are in the oven, rest of dinner is ready to go, so I think I will just stay in and watch the Super Bowl.

Here are some pictures I took early this morning.

This feeder was full yesterday afternoon.

Make room for me.

Feeder before the brunt of the storm.
What happened?

Mine, All MINE.

So pretty against the white of the snow.

Enjoy your day, Rose
